This is one of our most adventurous motorcycle journeys in Tibet — a true high-altitude expedition into the remote landscapes of western Tibet and the Ngari region.
Starting in Lhasa, the route first travels past the turquoise waters of Yamdrok Lake and through Shigatse before entering the heart of the Himalayas and reaching Mount Everest.
From Everest, continue west along the legendary G219 highway through Saga and Zhongba towards one of Tibet's most extraordinary destinations: the sacred landscapes of Lake Manasarovar and Mount Kailash.
After a relaxed day exploring the Mount Kailash area, the journey turns north into the vast interior of Ngari.
Ride through Geji, Gerze and Nyima and experience a very different side of Tibet — endless horizons, isolated roads, salt lakes, alpine grasslands and the immense open landscapes of the Changtang Plateau.
The final section passes through Serling Tso, Shenzha and Namling before returning to Lhasa, completing a remarkable loop across southern Tibet, the Himalayas, Ngari and the Tibetan northern plateau.
This is much more than a sightseeing tour. It is a genuine long-distance motorcycle expedition across some of the highest and most remote roads in the world.

1Arrival in Lhasa
Welcome to Tibet. Arrive at Lhasa Airport, where your airport transfer and hotel check-in will be arranged. No major activities are planned today, giving you time to rest and begin acclimatising to Lhasa's altitude of approximately 3,650 metres.
2Lhasa – Riding Documentation & Motorcycle Handover
A full day is reserved for the required driving documentation, eligibility checks and motorcycle rental procedures. Complete the motorcycle inspection, organise your riding equipment and become familiar with your bike. A detailed route and safety briefing will be provided before the expedition begins.
3Lhasa → Yamdrok Lake → Shigatse
Your Ngari motorcycle expedition officially begins. Leave Lhasa and climb into the mountains towards Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet's most spectacular sacred lakes. Enjoy breathtaking views of turquoise water surrounded by mountains before continuing past the Karo La Glacier and the Gyantse region towards Shigatse.
4Shigatse → Lhatse → Tingri
Continue west across the Tibetan Plateau and gradually enter the Himalayan region. Ride through Lhatse and across high mountain landscapes of grassland, open valleys and distant snow-covered peaks. Arrive in Tingri in the afternoon and prepare for the journey to Mount Everest.
5Tingri → Everest Base Camp → Saga
One of the most demanding and spectacular days of the expedition. Ride towards Mount Everest and enjoy panoramic Himalayan views from the Gawula Pass area. Visit the Everest Base Camp region using the required scenic-area transportation where applicable, then continue west through landscapes dominated by Shishapangma and Peiku Lake before reaching Saga.
6Saga → Zhongba → Lake Manasarovar → Baga
Follow the legendary G219 highway deeper into western Tibet. Cross the vast landscapes around Zhongba, where grasslands gradually give way to the stark beauty of the Ngari Plateau. Approach the sacred lake region and, in clear weather, enjoy extraordinary views of Lake Manasarovar, Rakshastal, Mount Kailash and Gurla Mandhata before arriving in Baga.
7Baga → Mount Kailash → Baga
After several long riding days, today is deliberately relaxed. Explore the Mount Kailash area by motorcycle and enjoy different viewpoints of one of Asia's most sacred and distinctive mountains. Depending on the group's condition, short walks and local cultural experiences can also be included. This itinerary does not include the full Mount Kailash kora trek.
8Baga → Shiquanhe Area → Geji
Leave the sacred Mount Kailash region and begin the northern section of the expedition. Ride through the high-altitude landscapes around Menshi and towards the Shiquanhe region before continuing to Geji. The scenery gradually changes from sacred lakes and mountains to vast desert plateaus, open valleys and remote highland terrain.
9Geji → Gerze
Follow the G317 east across the remote northern Ngari Plateau. This is true expedition riding: long open roads, very little traffic and immense landscapes of grassland, desert and salt lakes. With settlements becoming increasingly scarce, today offers one of the purest long-distance motorcycle experiences of the journey.
10Gerze → Dongco → Nyima
Continue east through the Changtang Plateau via the Dongco area towards Nyima. Alpine lakes, wetlands, open grasslands and barren mountain scenery dominate the landscape. Roads stretch towards seemingly endless horizons, creating one of the most remote and memorable riding days of the expedition.
11Nyima → Serling Tso → Shenzha → Namling
Another major expedition day across northern Tibet. Leave Nyima and ride through the spectacular Serling Tso lake region, surrounded by some of the most expansive landscapes on the Tibetan Plateau. Continue through Shenzha before turning south towards Namling. As the day progresses, the environment gradually changes from the wild Changtang plateau to broader valleys, grasslands and pastoral areas.
12Namling → Lhasa
Leave Namling and begin the final ride back to Lhasa. After the long and demanding days across Ngari and the Changtang Plateau, today's journey is considerably more relaxed. Arrive in Lhasa, return the motorcycles and enjoy a free afternoon to rest and reflect on an extraordinary journey across western Tibet.
13Lhasa – Cultural Discovery Day
Spend a full day discovering the cultural and spiritual heart of Tibet. Subject to reservation arrangements, visit the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple before walking through the historic streets of Barkhor Old Town. In the evening, gather for a farewell dinner and celebrate the completion of your journey through Everest, Mount Kailash, Ngari and the Changtang Plateau.
14Lhasa – Departure
After breakfast, enjoy some free time depending on your flight schedule before transferring to the airport. Your 14-day Tibet and Ngari motorcycle expedition comes to an end, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Mount Everest, Mount Kailash, sacred lakes, remote highland roads and the vast landscapes of western Tibet.
重要信息
- Distances: All distances are approximate and may change depending on the final motorcycle-permitted route, weather, road construction and local traffic regulations.
- Motorcycle Rental & Driving Requirements: Riders must meet the applicable legal requirements for operating a motorcycle in China. Required documentation and riding eligibility must be confirmed before the motorcycle journey begins.
- Tibet & Ngari Permits: Foreign travellers require the applicable travel permits and arrangements for Tibet. Additional authorisations may be required for Mount Everest, Ngari and other restricted or border regions.
- High-Altitude Expedition: A significant portion of this itinerary takes place above 4,000 metres, with some sections of Ngari and the Changtang Plateau at even higher elevations. Proper acclimatisation is essential.
- Long Riding Days: Days 5, 6, 8 and 11 involve extended riding distances and require good motorcycle experience, concentration and physical endurance.
- Remote Areas: Northern Ngari and the Changtang Plateau are extremely remote. Fuel stations, repair facilities, restaurants and other services can be widely spaced, so fuel and essential supplies must be carefully planned.
- Mount Kailash: This itinerary includes sightseeing and a relaxed exploration day around Mount Kailash. It does not include the complete multi-day Mount Kailash kora trek.
- Scenic-Area Transportation: Everest Base Camp and certain other destinations may require mandatory local shuttle or scenic-area transportation.
- Route Flexibility: Weather and road conditions can change quickly on the Tibetan Plateau. For safety reasons, the tour leader may adjust the itinerary while preserving the main highlights of the journey whenever possible.

2.For your trip, you'll need to prepare your own equipment, such as cycling gear and a helmet, for safe driving.
How to Customize Your Own Itinerary

2.We offer a range of options, including support vehicles, photographers, maintenance technicians, motorcycle ride leaders, and translator-guides.
3.If you have specific itinerary requirements for entering China by private vehicle, we can also provide customized arrangements.
How do I apply for a temporary Chinese driver's license?
1. We require an image of your home-country driver’s license in order to translate it and prepare the necessary documentation.
2. Currently, this service is available in Kunming, Chongqing, Guangzhou, and Urumqi.
3. Regarding vehicle pickup in Chengdu: due to recent policy adjustments, it is no longer possible to process temporary driver’s licenses there. You must obtain your temporary license elsewhere; therefore, we recommend securing it in advance before traveling to Chengdu to pick up your vehicle.
4.The process for obtaining a temporary driver's license typically takes about two hours to complete.
5.Service hours are Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
